Primary 1 Registration 2026 has officially started for children entering Primary 1 in 2027.
According to MOE, the registration period for admission to Primary 1 in 2027 runs from Tuesday, 30 June 2026 to Friday, 30 October 2026. Children are eligible if they were born between 2 January 2020 and 1 January 2021, both dates inclusive.
For many parents in Singapore, Primary 1 registration is more than an administrative process. It is often the first major step in planning a child’s primary school journey.
Choosing a school involves many practical considerations: distance from home, school culture, programmes, student care, transport, and how well the school environment fits your child’s personality and learning needs.
Who can register for Primary 1 in 2026?
The 2026 Primary 1 Registration Exercise is for children entering Primary 1 in 2027.
Your child is eligible for the 2026 exercise if they were born between 2 January 2020 and 1 January 2021.
For Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children, registration is conducted online through MOE’s P1 Registration Portal. The exercise takes place across several phases, including Phase 1, 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2C Supplementary.
International students follow a separate process. MOE states that admission for international students is not guaranteed, as priority is given to Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children.
Key Primary 1 Registration 2026 dates
For Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children, the first phase begins on 30 June 2026.
MOE’s key dates include:
Phase 1: 30 June to 2 July 2026Phase 2A: 9 July to 10 July 2026Phase 2B: 20 July to 21 July 2026Phase 2C: 28 July to 30 July 2026Phase 2C Supplementary: 17 August to 18 August 2026
Parents should check which phase their child is eligible for before submitting an application.
How to register your child
Parents can register online through the MOE P1 Registration Portal when their child’s eligible phase opens.
MOE states that parents need a valid Singpass with 2-Factor Authentication to log in. Only one parent is required to submit the registration, but that parent must declare that consent has been obtained from the other parent.
Through the portal, parents can:
view eligible registration phases and schoolssubmit the P1 registration applicationcheck registration results from 8am on result announcement daysreceive results by SMS
Why home-school distance matters
For many families, school distance is one of the most important parts of Primary 1 registration.
MOE explains that if a school has more applicants than vacancies, priority admission may be based on citizenship and home-school distance. The priority order starts with Singapore Citizens living within 1km of the school, followed by Singapore Citizens living between 1km and 2km, then those living outside 2km. Permanent Residents are considered after Singapore Citizens within the relevant distance categories.
Parents should also take note of the 30-month stay requirement. If a child gains priority admission based on home-school distance, the child must generally reside at the address used for registration for at least 30 months from the start of the P1 Registration Exercise.
MOE also reminds parents that the address used should be the parents’ official residential address reflected on their NRICs, and that false information may be referred for investigation.
How parents should choose a primary school
While distance and registration phase matter, parents should also think about whether the school is the right fit for the child.
Some useful questions to consider:
Does the school environment suit my child’s personality? Is the school close enough for a sustainable daily routine? Are there school-based student care options? What CCAs, programmes, or support structures does the school offer? Will my child feel comfortable and confident in this learning environment?
A popular school is not always the best school for every child.
For a young child entering Primary 1, daily confidence, emotional readiness, communication skills, and learning habits matter just as much as academic reputation.
Preparing your child for Primary 1
Once registration begins, many parents naturally focus on school choice. But this is also a good time to think about whether your child is ready for the transition into Primary 1.
Primary 1 is a big change. Children are expected to:
follow classroom instructionslisten and respond to teachersmanage school routinesrecognise basic words and numbersexpress themselves clearlycomplete simple tasks independentlybuild confidence in English, Chinese, and Mathematics
For Chinese especially, many children may recognise some words but struggle to speak in full sentences, answer confidently, or use polite expressions naturally.
That is why early preparation can make the transition smoother.
